Meet the Doctor

Dr. Brown

Dr. Brown

Hello! My name is Greg, and it’s my mission to help you smile like you mean it – both inside and out. Having been born and raised in Richland, I am a proud native of the Tri-Cities. After graduating from Washington State University – Go Cougs! – I spent time in Chicago and Oklahoma City while completing my dental and orthodontic schooling and training. I’m now thrilled to be reconnecting with my roots and building a home here with my wife, Andrea, and our newborn daughter, Frances. I consider it a great honor to be back in my hometown serving this beautiful and ever-expanding community.
When I’m not moving teeth, I love being active, especially in the outdoors. I am an avid snow skier, and have recently started running and cycling on a regular basis. You may even see me out running during my lunch break on a nice day!
As an orthodontist, my craft is straightening teeth, but the journey that I hope to embark on with each and every one of my patients runs much deeper than that. Having gone through orthodontic treatment myself, I experienced firsthand the positive effect transforming my smile had on my confidence and self-esteem. The impact that orthodontics had on me instilled in me the desire to help provide the same for others.
In my practice, straightening teeth serves as a vehicle for personal transformation. It is my passion to help you achieve the smile that you deserve, so that you can boost your self-confidence and move through the world with a greater sense of joy and ease.
My father, Dr. Dexter Brown, opened this practice over 45 years ago and I am thrilled to be continuing his legacy by offering quality care as a Tri City orthodontist. My number one goal is to ensure that you and your family’s needs are met at the highest level possible, and that you feel well taken care of during every step of our journey together. I hope you decide to take the first step toward obtaining the smile of your dreams, and I look forward to meeting you soon!
Sincerely,

Why Should You See an Orthodontist?

Ultimately, a smile is one of the most important parts of developing self-confidence and healthy social relationships, as a truly great smile is infectious.

We're specialistsA better smileMultiple benefitsLifestyleKids and orthodontics
Orthodontists are experts in their field, specializing in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial irregularities to help correctly align teeth, bites and jaws, including straightening crooked teeth. Although orthodontists and general dentists share many similarities – they both work hard to help you improve your overall oral health – specialization is what sets an orthodontist apart from a general dentist. It’s a bit like the difference between your GP medical doctor and a specialist physician like a dermatologist (or any other medical specialist).
Did you know that orthodontists complete an additional two–three years of full-time university training, on top of their general dental degree? As well as that, they limit their practice to only orthodontic treatment so that is all they do all day, every day. Only an orthodontist has been specifically trained and is the most qualified and experienced person to treat issues to do with the alignment of teeth and jaws to ensure you, or your child, ends up with a healthy and confident smile.
Your smile is one of your most important features. It is one of the first things we notice when we greet someone, it’s the way we remember one another, and it’s the way we interact with one another. Having confidence in your smile can positively change your life, which is why consulting an orthodontist to help you create your most healthy and attractive smile is so important. A beautiful, straight smile not only means your teeth are easier to clean and your gums are healthier, it can also help exude confidence and reduce stress.
In addition to psychological benefits such as improved self-confidence, orthodontic treatment also brings many physical benefits, including a beautiful smile through the correction of:
  • Bad bites that can damage teeth and gums
  • Protruding or misaligned teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Crooked and overcrowded teeth
  • Speech, breathing or chewing difficulties
  • Misaligned jaws (which can affect your facial profile)
  • An orthodontist can also help in the diagnosis and management of obstructive sleep apnoea and can help manage persistent thumb and finger sucking habits in children.
Options to suit every lifestyle. Orthodontic treatment has come a long way since the days of chunky metal braces, bands and headgears; today, contemporary orthodontic treatments are designed to be as unobtrusive and comfortable as possible so patients can get on with their lives without embarrassment or discomfort. While braces are still an extremely effective way of straightening teeth and achieving a great smile, modern orthodontic treatment options now include clear braces (for example 3M Clarity Advanced Ceramic Brackets) and clear aligners (for example Invisalign®).
Whether you’re considering clear aligners or traditional braces, only an orthodontist specialist has the training, experience and complete range of treatment options to give you the confidence that you’re in the best hands possible.
Although early orthodontic treatment won’t be needed for all youngsters, taking your child to see an orthodontist between the ages of 7-10 will give the orthodontist a chance to assess the alignment of your child’s teeth and jaws and determine if and when, early intervention is indicated. Orthodontists are highly trained to pinpoint a child’s orthodontic problems from a young age, even if they are subtle, and they can start correcting some problems to avoid potential long term issues.

Orthodontics for All Ages

Every smile is unique, and Dr. Brown treats each patient with the highest level of individualized care and attention, for the best results and a gorgeous smile for life.

Early TreatmentAdolescent TreatmentAdult Treatment
The American Association of Orthodontics recommends visiting the orthodontist around the age of seven. By this age, most children have both primary (baby) teeth and permanent (adult) teeth, which makes it easier to diagnose and correct tooth and jaw problems sooner and without surgical intervention. Not all children need orthodontic treatment, but an evaluation is necessary to determine which children can benefit from treatment.

We recommend monitoring your child for the below conditions and having an evaluation by an orthodontist:

  • Thumb, pacifier or other oral habit
  • Crowded or misplaced teeth
  • Difficulty chewing or eating
  • Early or late loss of baby teeth
  • Mouth breathing
  • Jaw that is not proportionate to the rest of the face
  • Teeth that come together abnormally
  • A jaw that pops or makes sounds when opening and closing

Early treatment is beneficial because:

  • Creates more space for crowded teeth
  • May avoid the need for permanent (adult) teeth to be extracted
  • Corrects thumb sucking or other oral habits and helps improve minor speech problems
  • Regulates the width of the upper and lower jaws
  • Corrects and guides the growth of the child’s upper and lower jaw to help the permanent (adult) teeth to come in the proper place
Orthodontic braces may have had a bad reputation in the past, but today’s braces make it easy to look and feel good during teenage years. Our office offers a variety of types and styles of braces especially for teenagers! Some options include:
  • Invisalign
  • Low-profile brackets
  • Clear braces
Every teenager wants to know how long he or she will be in braces. We understand that teenagers may want treatment to be quick which is why we have a few recommendations.
Get treatment early. Early treatment allows the orthodontist to monitor the growth of the jaw and recommend further orthodontic treatment if necessary. Some patients may need early treatment and others may wait for all of their adult teeth before they start treatment.
What is being treated? The amount of time you wear braces depends on the amount of treatment needed to correct the problem. Some patients may only need slight adjustments and may be in treatment for 12 months while others may need more treatment that could take 24 months or longer. Treatment time also depends on each individual. Some patients may respond quickly to treatment and will be in braces less time. Remember, we strive for excellence and we’ll figure what is best to obtain it.
The Patient. Your willingness to use the appliances will greatly affect the length of time it takes to complete treatment. Always take care of your braces and appliances and your treatment time will be shorter!
The American Association of Orthodontists states that one in five orthodontic patients are over the age of 21. Many adults are choosing to improve their smile for both cosmetic and functional purposes. We now understand that not only are straight teeth beautiful, but healthier!

Adults are choosing orthodontic treatment because:

  • Teeth are crowded or have extra space
  • Tooth decay or periodontal disease due to crowded teeth
  • Abnormal jaw pain or discomfort caused by misaligned teeth
  • Desire for a healthier mouth and more confident smile
  • Teeth do not come together properly
  • Worn or missing teeth. When teeth are misaligned they do not come into contact with each other properly and cause wearing.
  • Incomplete orthodontic treatment as a teen
Many adults are discouraged by the thought of having big, bulky braces. Today’s orthodontic treatment offers many varieties that are more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Invisalign
  • Low-profile brackets
  • Clear braces
There are many benefits to orthodontic treatment as an adult and it is never too late! Teeth that are not aligned properly are very difficult to brush and floss. As an adult, this often causes tooth decay and periodontal disease. These conditions continue to get worse over time and do not fix themselves unless the cause of the problem is addressed.
